Does anyone know how the delete plate is attached to the dash? Special Clips or ?

Remove the push nuts on the back of the delete plate(very carefully.).  Place the plate on the dash with the studs protruding through the two radio tuner holes. Place the thin washer over the stud. Place the push nut on the stud and push it toward the base of the stud.

All, thanks for the tips. It seems that the delete plate that I have is not for a 53 but rather a 48 or 49 dash.  The knob holes are recessed and the tab is not long enough to allow the clips to be attached to the studs.

Does anyone have the correct delete plate for a 53?
