Steering wheel removal

Before I screw something up, somebody tell me how to remove the pins holding the horn button and ring on my 48 and/or 49 Hudsons. I tried to attach a photo to this post but that option doesn't seem to be available anymore.

The part that I'm not sure about how to remove is referred to as the "retainer" in the repair manual.  I guess I'm asking what is the best way to remove it.

Never mind, I figured it out.  The piece of wire holding the pins in place is expendable...
