1929 HUDSON ESSEX - A SPECIAL GIFT
I am posting here in the hopes someone may recognize my father's 1929 Hudson Essex or share advice on how I can trace the history of his pride and joy. The VIN number is: 1097819. We are celebrating his 80th Birthday and are hoping to trace the true history of the Essex as a very special gift. There are only 36,000 original miles on it so I can't imagine there were too many previous owners. The original color alone is hard to forget. PS we still "drive" it to car shows at a very respectable 40mph

One avenue you can pursue, is to contact the registrar for that particular year of Essex. Those who keep the registries often have a lot more detailed information on the cars than the Club may have it its master registry. For example, they may have the names of previous owners who have bothered to register the cars with the Club. They might also happen to know the history of the car themselves, from notes and other files they may keep.
Also, If your father recalls the name of the person from whom he bought the car, or the area in which it formerly resided before he acquired it, you might mention it here. Those are all hints that might trigger someone's memory. A Hudsonite who's lived in that area for a long time, may recall seeing this car at a meet back in the 1970's, and might be able to furnish the name of its former owner. Anyway, it's a start.

It's a great start thank you for the suggestion. Who keeps these registries? I know that my father purchased the Essex from someone it Deerfield Beach Florida approximately 12 years ago. A VIN # search has led me to a 1998 registration in Missouri. I won't know if it is the correct car for a week or so. Also, I can only receive public records - which does not include owner's names. With such low original miles, I can't imagine there were too many owners.0

GingerRae,
A great starting point would be to have your father join the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club, if he isn't already a member. You can then research information, and connect with other 1929 Essex owners. A Membership would be a great birthday present.

GingerRae, the keeper of the 1929 Essex registry is David Weinstein, in NY State. His e-mail address is XXXerbpartners@gmail.com (delete the XXX before sending). Do inquire as to whether this car has been previously registered and (if so) the name of the previous owner(s). Please give David all the information on your father's car so that David can update the registry, possibly with information that no previous owner had given him.
