hey guys - i have been advised (and i have read) about the 12V conversion starter issue - i read past threads about properly converted starters, but I could not find a source for a starter - any referrals/info would be great - thanks for looking

Is your original starter not working?  Nothing wrong with using it. Have been for years. Volts when starting are around 8.25v as I recall.

thanks - it does work, but it starts to whirl at the end, with a sounds that doesn't sound great - i just want to avoid being stuck with a busted starter - there is another thread now current on this subject - thanks again

You can purchase a bendix. I carry a spare bendrix plus a 'sharpened' long stud for temp. installation in top bolt hole.
Difficult, almost impossible, to hold up the starter while you inserting a bolt, IF you are laying on your back. Tough enough to get it on that sharpened stud !!!

Not to hijack the thread, but I just paid my Hagerty Insurance bill and with it I have added the roll back recovery service which provides me with rollback recovery out to 150 miles from my home.  I have used it once and the pickup was within 2 hours of my calling for help.  Maybe an alternative to carrying spares?   I have driven Hudsons for regular transportation since 1963 and in that time I have been "stuck" with a broken car 4 times... the three other times I was a young buck who crawled under the beast and patched up what ever was broken.   Today, that crawling under stuff is not on my agenda.  Enjoy your HUDSON!

thanks - i have hagerty as well - no complaints - no alternative to carrying spares when you are out of cell phone range!
