Richard D's ignition system
Richard, I took a picture of your engine when I met you at Lance's meet two years ago. I have a Pertronix system on my 48 that seems to be working fine. I've not been so lucky with the 49 coupe. The last coil I got from Pertronix seems to have shorted out and I have read the posts from the "Pertronix Question" and I'm almost ready to send this last coil back and go another route. Hence the question what kind of ignition system do you have in your 53? I would have sent you a PM but every time I try to send one to someone I never get a response, which leads to believe I must be doing something wrong.

BTW Summit sells their own coil to go with Petronix setups.0

Jason,I just have a stock system with a high voltage coil. Have no idea where it came from. Has a Motorola transistor on the side that makes it 'look' special. Have an uninstalled dual point set !! I don't want an electronic. The car runs fine and I don't drive fast, in fact, I hardly drive at all. Haven't cranked in months !!

That's too bad. That is too nice of a car not to drive around the block every now and then.0

Times I have came across similar coil burn out issues all have been on ignition systems that didnt have ACC on the key or people have played with over the years. People turn the key a click to get power to hear some tunes or what ever and burn out the coil. For me I always put a safety cut of switch hidden on all my cars that cuts power from key to the coil. So even if you have the key turned or heck turn the key all the way to get the starter/engine cranking you get no power to the coil. Might save the car from not only theft but also coil burnouts.I would also get the multimeter out and make sure no power is going to the coil with key off and on ACC.0

Flicked you a private message. Since its security related & one of the ways I secure my cars I rather not broadcast it to the wide web.
if any other active members I recognize would like the info just let me know.
