    Congratulations!  Great price and great ride.  That's awesome the engine is free.  Keep in mind that the 8 is a splasher engine, meaning it has a dipper (rod) that reaches down into the oil pan while the engine is running, picks up oil and then literally slings it onto the crankshaft-- a very antiquated and inefficient method of lubing the rods and bearings.  Because the car has sat idle for the last three decades, I highly recommend you drop the oil pan before trying to start her and thoroughly clean out the sludge that will be built up in there.  There's several baffles in there where the sludge can hang onto and build up more than normal with a clear sump.  

    However, I've heard more stories than I can count about Hudsons that have sat for decades and someone added fresh gas and a battery and it started up.  It happens with Hudsons I think more than any other brand.  A little due diligence on your part, though will give you dividends in the long run.

    Welcome to the HET!  We sure are glad to have you.  I think the '37's were probably the best-looking pre-war car out there.  Hudsons always seemed to have an art deco theme and the grille on the '37's had reached it's zenith in that department, imo.

    The rookie mistake to avoid after you have removed and cleaned the top and bottom oil pans is to make sure that the top pan is full of oil before starting the engine, many an engine has been ruined by starting it with a dry top oil pan. Filling the engine with oil through the oil filler puts ZERO oil into the top tray.
