    They pop up once in a while. If I remember right, has nothing to do with HMCC. Was a step for a barber-styled chair.

    I've heard the barber shop story and I have also heard they came from the Hudson store shoe dept. I like both stories.

    Which actually makes more sense, at least with the one in the photo from the OP, as it is free standing.
