shifter popping out of gear
Need some help guys, I'm working on a 49 with a manual transmission and it doesn't seem to stay in 2nd gear. I looked at it alittlle last night and read the service manual. I will go though the steps tonight to ensure the shifter linkage is to spec
At first glance tho it seams like when the shifter is in second there is really no tension or anything to hold it in the up position.
Any thoughts on what I should go after first here? any common issue that i need to address?
Thanks in advance.

In my experience the only way to stop this happening is to replace the second gear and synchro sleeve.0

Pull the seat cushion and floor pan and carefully remove the top cover of the tranny. The ball and spring will be at the driver side rear. If the spring is not broken, I'm afraid you'll have to go Geoff's route, but then you'll have the access to remove the tranny.0
