Maybe there is a modern version you can use. My 2012 Chevy has a hill holder.

I can't see why it couldn't be used with disc brakes. Isn't the Hill Holder attached to the master cylinder? The hydraulic lines radiate from there to the individual wheel cylinders. The Hill Holder doesn't care what's installed at the far ends of the lines, whether internal expanding shoes, or disc brakes. All it knows is, when the car is on a hill, the clutch pedal will lock the brakes while depressed, preventing the car from rolling backwards until the pedal is released.
  • I have a couple of NOS ones from the 40s or 50s, and I will scan the instructions for you if you like - I am intending to fit one of them to my own car.

Nice Victor. I use that so I can leave it in N. Usually the hood is open and when they start oogling the straight 8, I ask if they wanna hear it run. Everybody does so I turn the key on and punch the starter button. Starts right now and putters away. They can't believe how quiet it is (with a muffler you can throw the cat through) and no vibration. Gotta work the crowd.

The following is page 114 of the ABS POWER BRAKES catalog. You can visit the catalog direct at abspowerbrakes.com They provide Hudson Disc brake kits for Stepdowns. I talked to the company a month ago and the cost for an all inclusive kit that bolts on to a Hudson without machine work costs $575 plus shipping.

The second and third pictures are screen captures of an article about installation of this kit on a 1954 Hudson Hornet.

Do these work satisfactorily, since the brakes don't have a vacuum booster? I once had a 1974 Volkswagen 412 station wagon with disk brakes on the front, and no vacuum booster. The brakes functioned, but required an uncomfortable amount of effort. The brakes in my 1946 Hudson felt much better.

There is a chance the 48-54 kit could fit earlier cars since stepdown drums can be adapted to them

You would have thought they would clean up the assembles before taking pictures!

I thought the same thing. You and I need to take classes on how to control our Type A personalities....

For the record... the installation of the kit by Mark was done at the request of others in our chapter. He had the 54 front clip setting against the wall and it was convenient to show the installation which was captured for the chapter newsletter. The kit was removed from the salvaged front end stub after the tech session. The kit does not require the sending of parts to the vendor for modification. It is complete and a bolt on. This kit has been installed by other members on several different year Stepdowns. Some with Hudson power and some with late model V8s. As of this writing, those I have quizzed about the kit have not mentioned added pressure on the pedal to make them work. None of the installations use a power booster and none have rear discs. To my knowledge the kit recommends a front to back brake residual pressure valve balancing valve.

Being quick to critic is not a bad thing... it is just how many of us HET folk roll....

The brand name is 'No-Roll'. I'll look at my NOS box for a number when I get 11 in of new snow out of the way.
