Carburetor rebuild and adjustment (WDG 776S)- 51 Hudson Hornet

Hey all.
So I've rebuilt my carburetor on my Hornet ( Carter WDG 776S). I'm now to the point of setting/adjusting it. I have the shop manual and have been reading up on the process, but I'm wondering if there are any tips/tricks to get it close or make the process easier. It seems to require a lot of special gauges that I don't have...YET. I'm searching for those now.
I have the car "running," but MAN IS IT RICH! It completely blacks out my garage in just a couple of minutes. After reading through the manual, I'm pretty sure I have the Idle screws WAY too far out. So, I'll fix that first thing when I get home.
Thanks in advance!!
