Looking for pictures of 1953 Hornet back fuel line and how it follows the frame over the rear axle??

Looking for pictures of 1953 Hornet back fuel line and how it follows the frame over the rear axle?? The previous owner started with a 3/8" rubber line from the tank to a fuel filter, then from the fuel filter to a 1/4" air hose (rated for 300lbs pressure... lololol) not sure how he got it on the fuel filter because I couldn't get it off.... then hose clamped to a 5/16" steel line.

My clips are still attached to the frame however not sure how it traveled from one clip to another.

Thanks

  • Where are you located? I have NOS rear fuel lines for step downs 5/16 factory bent with proper fittings. These are NOS Hudson, but long and curved so would be a problem to ship.

There is a learning curve (different types of fittings, how to properly use the required equipment) and equipment expense (flaring tool, bender, pipe cutter) in making and installing your own fuel lines, but once you know the process you are master of your own destiny. You can clear out an old cobbled together fuel line or dodgy brake lines and install new neat professional looking lines.
Don't cheap out on the flaring tool, they are not all created equal, buy a good one that does double flares. Eastwood do a good one for around $200, anything by Rothenberger is usually OK.
  • You asked for photos; have several but these focus on other things and not necessarily the fuel line. Line shows somewhat in the photos; in top two it is shown partially covered with thermal shield, second one shows line cut and elec. fuel pump with filter installed. Third shows line also on frame above axle. These may help or may not.

  • Thanks Guys, after looking at my other gas tank posts and this one I noticed the previous owner of my car removed a good part of the line as well as welded a different connection to one that accepts rubber line...

I bought a flaring tool, bender. pipe cutter and some premade 5/16" tube... not perfect but it works well... from the tank to new tube line I used 5/16" rubber fuel as I had no fittings to the tank.. also put in a new fuel filter as I know there is still crap in the tank..

Richard your pics helped out a lot... thanks.

Exhaust was on the car when I got it. Was custom made on the car I believe. I still don't know how it was possible to do the welds like that. Some more exhaust photos.

Thank you~~~~(thought of something: when you are retired, have a garage and lift, work expands to fill the time--wouldn't have done all that otherwise)
