Essex Piston Installation

I am rebuilding my 1919 Essex. See attached image of the piston, I suspect these are not original but would like to know if the split in the side of the piston has to be placed either facing the oil scoop on the big end bearing cap or facing the opposite side.

Any comments would be appreciated.

The plain side goes on the right, and the split to the left (as viewed form the drivers seat looking forward.)   Or to describe differently, the plain side next to the camshaft.
