Is It Just Me ?

I have a 1934 Hudson 8.
If the the loop on my dipstick is at a right angle to the crankcase, it gives me a different reading than if the loop is parallel to the crankcase.
Has anyone also experienced this phenomenon or am I merely going crazy ?

Use the reading with the loop parallel with the crankcase. That's the way the stick is supposed to be positioned.
