Voltage regulator

I went for a ride in the 49 Commodore 8 and at idle the generator light goes off and on and I can hear a clicking coming from the voltage regulator in rhythm with the light going on, off, on, off. etc. Any ideas on what's going on?

It is not uncommon for the generator light to be on at idle because the engine isn't turning the generator fast enough to charge the battery. If the indicator light is flickering on and off, it may be at the threshold of the charging rpm. Try setting the idle a bit higher (say 600 RPM). If the light stays off at idle at the higher RPM, then that was the problem.

It's actually not a problem. It's how it's meant to work.0
