Stepdown Cowl Vent Seal Placement

I am replacing the missing cowl vent seal on my 51. I noticed some bits of glue and old seal in the body cavity and no evidence of any old glue or seal on the vent, however I had seen on Wildrick's site that seal should be installed on vent and not the body. My new seal is made by Metro and fits the body perfectly and poorly on the vent, so what is the correct or original placement of this seal?
