Headliners

I need to put a new headliner in the '54 Hornet Sedan. Who do you guys suggest out there that has good ones? 30 years ago or so, I used one from JC Whitney and surprisingly it was pretty good.

Also, what do you use for the insulation/sound deadening pads that are glued to the roof panel? I'd like to get something that will stay up there for the next 20 years or so. :D

I used one of JC Whitney's headliners (cloth) too 30 years ago in my 57 chevy wagon.

It really did look great, but went to hell about year 20 and not too much left now.

As a bonus when it rotted out I discovered a bunch of Ohio Highway Patrol

defect notifications from my misspent youth tucked up over top the drivers

door. Amazingly they held up better than the headliner. :D

they have everything you need. Patterns for virtually everthing. They will need to know year, model, make, # of bows etc. They will send you some samples and then when you give them the fabric number voila, you have a headliner that looks great and fits. I have an upholstery shop and I would not even attempt to make one, as Acme can make them faster and cheaper than I ever could. Just put one in a 51 Stude Champion 4 door for a customer and it fit perfectly.

    cheers,

    Steve

I used Acme for both headliner and windlace in my 51 Hornet. Absolutely satisfied with both service and quality. Walt

I'm thinking about using this Ceramic Insulation called Lizard Skin http://www.lizardskin.com/

It looks like good stuff and should help keep the weight down.

For my Hudson we just took down the old headliner and seem ripped it to make patterns and sew a new one. used contact cement to glue up some insulation that was also flame proof. the headliner bows help hold it up too. We got our materials from an upholstery supply house locally so the whole job was pretty cheap.
  • A friend and and I just installed a new top on my 29 Hudson 4 door sedan. We mounted the rain gutters and there is a metal cover that goes on to cover the holes on top of the rain gutter. I have them but they are all bent up. The rain gutter curves down tward the rear of the car so do the metal covers. Do you know where I might get these repaired or some replacements ? Thanks Ron Sorry I thought I was starting a new thread. Oh well I will start one later LOL :)

I put some added insulation in my daily driver when I had to replace the headliner in my AMC. I am totally amazed at the difference that it has made! I also put used it to replace the original barrier paper in the doors. www.insulation4less.com
  • which sound barrier insulation did you use?

Prodex Foil/ foam/foil (FfmF). I used 3M adhesive (Home Depot most expensive stuff) to adhere it to the roof. I also used this stuff on my uninsulated garage doors. It raised the temperature 10 degrees on average.
