Essex project frame pic
Front end pictures are better. I bought this frame from a guy if you can believe it that made it for a 1928 Essex Tudor and he did all the work and then lost interest and sold it out piece by piece. The front end is all Fiero parts and it uses Chevy Corsica rotors. The calipers are not installed yet but I will be using the stock Fiero ones. All I need to do now is build an upper spring cup and go back and forth to the wreckers until I find the correct spring to hold the weight. I also have to fab the outboard shock mounts. The rear is a 9 inch with a triangulated 4 bar set up. The springs are set on cups on the axle and the top of the crossmember. I may use these for now and later on just swap out the shocks and springs for coilovers. Shocks are not installed yet but would be a traditional set up. The only down fall I can see from this front end set up is that it uses a front end that would traditionally not use a very heavy spring, so this must be fabbed. Other than that it is just as beefy as a Must 11 and the cost of parts is cheap, as the Fiero shares parts with the chevette(ball joints ect) and they are cheap also. There is an eccentric made on the top a arm for alignment purposes. The guy just put a piece of pipe in the middle where the springs are going to go to set the ride height and allow it to move. Let me know if you require any more detailed pics and info if you are considering this set up for your essex. I also have other pieces like, twin stainless saddle gas tanks, chevy steering column adapted for the essex dash, all the running board and fender brackets where also included in the deal. Best $500.00 I have ever spent buying that frame. It was just like all the stars aligned at once and told told me to modify that Essex!!!

One last pic of whole car sitting on new frame. Cool low and mean stance eh? The roof is 4 inches below my chin and I am 5 foot 11!! Now for the red steelies, wide whites and custom exhaust!0

Sweet! This ought to be something when it's on the road!0

Going to be a cool ride, are you going to narrow the rear axle or widen the fenders?0

Steve, Thanks for getting out those new photos of your Essex. Much better! I've been told that a Chevy S-10 front clip would be a good choice but I haven't checked out the dimensions yet to see if it will work. Possibly the S-10 rear would fit also. I too plan to use coil-overs at all 4 corners.0

S10 rears are supposed to be quite good. They can handle the power of a small block (unless you are torqing on them all the time) and are cheap and plentiful. As for the front clip idea, I think it is a good one. Parts again are cheap and lots of guys have done it to a multitude of vehicles. One other suggestion is using the whole frame. A guy in town has a 28 essex tudor and he used the whole s10 drive train. 4 cylinder and all. He drives it everywhere. He has closed in the back windows and made it into a sedan delivery. He said the s10 frame is very close in size and it made a good swap. This could save you alot of hassles in figuring out geometry and alignment etc. and a v8 motor mount kit is available for the s10.0

Hi,Hey im in the process of building a frame for my essex.would it be possible for me to get some more pics of youre frame and deminsions ,also did you have to cut much out of the rear pans for the step up in youre frame?I built a frame for a 1932 ford pickup years ago but have slept a little since then lol. My car is a 1928 essex 3 window coupe with rumble seat also. You have a lot more to go with tho than me, all i have is a body, doors floorpans etc pieces of rear fenders,of course what I have believe it or not is in almost excelent shape.Have been saving parts for years to build this i was going to build this with my dad but as life goes he passed away august the 14th,so i guess it will just be me to finish it but it will be decated to him.what is the size of tubing used on youre frame?I used 2x4 on the 32 but have been told to use 2x3 just as strong, what i was told.need to locate a radiator shell, and deck lid, someday will be full fendered, intend on putting a electric moon roof in the top,up ft for power will be a ford mustang v-6 fuel injected, with auto trans, mustang 2 independant ft suspension,4 link rear ford 9 inch posi trac. sorry to be babbling my email is billym8228@hotmail.com if you dont mind sending me some pics i would really appreciate it. thanks Billy0

The motor was stuck and hadn't turned since 1992 . But that 394 Olds Is a BAD BOY . It came out of a 1960 Olds 4 door that was almost 4000 LB and the Hot Rod Is around 1900 LB.
