Water Pumps
I failed to mention the help that Steve Farkaly and Walt Mordenti gave to me on setting the pump impellar to rear cover and gasket thickness specs.
Also Steve sent me pictures of the latest electric water pump that he used on his SUPER 7-X Engine. Part of the coolant goes through the deflector tube and part to the core plug side of the engine. ( more flow to core side)
Way back in the middle 50's and 60' when we were drag racing 308 hornets and Jets I wrote a letter to Bernie Sigfried Hudson Engineer about 308 engines running HOT at HIGH SPEED. He wrote back and said ! why mess around with the CORE-PLUG-STAVING SIDE OF THE 308 FOR WATER when the 8 CYL COULD BE BUILT TO OUT RUN ANY 308.. ( he sent some info on the 8s at that time) He said, the blocks in 1951 were cast wider on the core plug side for bigger bores and also for more coolant flow around the cyl.walls on plug side. But, the 308 would still run a little hotter at high speed. Needs more coolant flow.
Bernie wrote a couple more letters to me after that but never did say how to correct the flow problem. ( i have missplaced the letters over the years but I do remember getting them and a few from ART ADAMS ALSo WITH Hudson Co HUDSONLY TO ALL Rudy.

I agree with you Park, suddenly - this 8 stuff has gotten interesting. If Bernie said they could be built to outrun the 6's - that is significant!

I will look through my old letters of years gone by later in the week
and HOPE that it turns up.
Also many years back ,ether in the T.H.E. or North Texas News latter or the W.T.N. Bernie wrote about getting more power out of the 8s.
There was also a write up about the 8 cyl engine that he assembled in the upstairs dept. in 1952-53 That made MORE POWER THAN THE 308 and HUDSON MOTOR Co made him or destory it.
So come on and dig out the T.H.E--North Texas News and the W.T.N.
and help find this Info. I know its out there. Lets all help out.

Yes, great idea, let's get this info on the 8's dug out and see what is possible!! We can build a "virtual" hot H8 engine right here on this site as a blueprint that those interested can pick up on and do on their own engines.0

Like I said on the other thread !!!! Hudson 8's RULE!!!0

Fellow Hudsonites - This Hot 8 stuff is getting downright exciting.
It is for me anyway - and I don't even have an 8 to mess with!
A Hydramatic 8 in a light weight traditional type rod would absolutely be sweet. I'm all about the virtual build - sounds like a great idea.
Can't you see a Rod like this - Hudson 8 exhaust pipes out the driver's side and dual webers sticking out of the passenger side.
