  • Is that ever ugly, I hope they don't build it and attach the hornet name to it. Looks like competition for the Pontiac Aztek!

Is it just me, or is each new concept car uglier than the last? I just went to the annual auto show and left unimpressed. Why, for example, do cars have to be so high? Do those wheels actually add to the overall design? What are the notches for, under the doors or at the side of the rear hatch? This is not so much a clean design as a collection of dorky styling features that will look really edgy this year, and 'so...yesterday' four years from now. To borrow someone else's words, this car looks like an angry kitchen appliance.

Looks like a LEGO car. We can respectfully request that they not use the name for Hudsonal reasons. Do you think they would even listen if all the HET members sent them an "E" mail ???

    I didn't think so either~!

Do y'all remember the "transformers" the kids played with a few years ago? No not the ones used with the Lionel Trains... The ones that could be transformed from space ships to weapons, to robots? Well those same kids are now designing our cars....

Live in the past .. It's not only cheaper, but a damn sight easier on the eyes..
  • Looks like a Mini. Insides should be easy to wash out tho!
  • Heck, if anything looks like a Hudson currently, it's the Magnum wagon! The grille not withstanding, look at a four-door Hornet and the Magnum together.
  • This thing looks like Japanese annimation. Or better still, this time the five blind men have built a car after running their hands over a Suzuki Samuri.By the way guys the visor is on the wrong end.

This is what I thought. Trying to catch some of the market that is Mini Cooper-crazed right now. In that regards, they might be onto something, but it's ugly to me, too.

  • I think we should collectively petition Chrysler Daimler to NOT use the Hornet name on such an ugly car. That is Ugly - no other way to put it.

Patrick is right, that name should have fallen upon the Magnum - it is a modern day Hornet, beltline - roofline - Hornet. You'd be shocked at the 300M's resemblence to my Wasp went parked nose to tail.

They'd been better off recognizing the Hornet by attaching the name to the new Dodge Charger's.

Now they can take the Pacer off the ugly car list ( I always liked mine when I had it) and replace it with this.

    Fred
  • i wouldnt put my family in that piece.can you imagine what it would look like if it got broadsided by my 51 commodore?
  • If they put THAT on the Market with the HUDSON HORNET LOGO I will immediately sell my 2005 PT Cruiser and never ever again do business with Chrysler....

    GAG what a mess...

A few of you that follow this Forum might remember a few months ago, I said it was a shame that manufacturers are using the name of great cars of the past, but look NOTHING like that original. Take away the grille, and there's nothing similar about the old, and new Chrysler 300. The old and new Chargers look nothing alike.Impala, and Malibu fall in that same catagory. I hate to "toot the horn" for a Brand X, here on this Forum, but I think Ford has done a Great job of keeping the "lines" similar on the Mustang all these years. To me, a Jaguar J-Type lines closely resemble a Hudson Step-down.
  • That car is ugly, but...... well, yes that really just about sums it up.... it's BUTT-UGLY!

I agree with all about that "rag", terrible looking contraption, However, if any of you take "Hot Rod" mag [takes me back to the 50's] look on page 60 and see what you think of that concept car -by HOLDEN- GM div "down under". Front end looks just like a Hudson hood and so does the grill. get Daimler to sell GM the name-they are disappointed with chrysler anyway-and start a new Hudson division to replace Oldsmobile ? I'll sigh up for one today. The designers say it comes from a 53 model that looks sort of like a Jet front a 46 rear. Need another John DeLorean,Lee Iaccoa is not working is he?

Looks about like the last hornet after I zapped it with Raid!
  • It used to be you could look at a car and instantly knew what it was by it's destinctive styling. Big Caddy fins, a Stepdown profile, 57 Chevy, early Mustangs and Camaro's, etc. Most if not all "modern" cars have that generic windtunnel "look at me, I'm a bland and uninteresting car" look. You would think that the manufactuers would get it. Ford got it with their incredibly popular new retro Mustang. Now Toyota will hit a home run with the new retro Land Cruiser.... Niels
  • You know what? I actually LIKE that little car! I just don't want to see it badged as a Hornet. There are better and more contemporary names that would fit the nature and character of this little "bug" car. It looks like a "Spike" or a "Cyborg", not a Hornet.

I would be the first to sign that petition Hudsonator. That car is an ugly abomination of the Hornet name, worse than the '70's AMC thing they called a Hornet. The only thing in Chryslers line-up that could remotely wear the Hornet badge with any dignity is the Magnum. What they should do is make a Magnum variant with a more pronoumced torpedo fast-back style and call that the Hornet. It amazes me how cars that were designed by hand on a drafting table years ago look so much better and were so much more spacious than new cars with computer aided designs (CAD). These current styling people have all the astetic sensibilities of a hampster. I can't believe any of them went to an engineering or industrial design school. If they want to make that car fine.....but don't call it a Hornet!!!

It should be called the Chryseler GC (Golf Cart)
  • Okay, I'll chime in here......I'm with Pat.......I kind of like this car. Its got the Euro styling, compact, sporty. Except I wouldn't buy it cause I have a toddler and no way would I let my wife and kid into that with all the crazies on the road! One hit by anything bigger than my kid's tricycle and it crumbles like a dixie cup! I think the Hornet name should be retired as it just doesn't fit the cars of today or tomorrow. It represents a classic car of a bygone era and should remain that way. If I think of the Hornet name I would always want to think of the cool styled car it was named for (and not that later non-Hudson car which also bore this name!). Like the "Superbee" it only works for the car whom originally bore its name. Some names are just not meant to be recycled.

To me the Magnum resembles the offspring of a wild night between a mid-50's Chrysler 300 and a Hornet. LOL

    Hudsonly,

  • I'd say the AMC Eagle Spirit Kammback is the inspiration for the new "Hornet"
  • Put a '52 Hornet 4-door next to a Magnum, and there is far more resemblance there than with the AMC wagon. You're definitely the first one in this forum to see the AMC resemblance.
  • No resemblance at all to a Stepdown. The "DODGE" Hornet prototype resembles the AMC Eagle Kammback.

I can see some similarities between the Stepdown and the Magnum, but it bugs me to compare a soccer mom stationwagon to the NASCAR champ Hudson Hornet.
  • thats discusting! Who thinks this crap up? They should just design the cars the same way they looked in the past. Go ahead and upgrade the drive line but lets keep the styling/ Look what they did to the charger! A 4 dr? Come on! It looks like the magnum that was left in the drier too long. I do like the new challanger looks. Wouldn't trade an orig for one though. Look at the new camaros. I think the guy that talked about the transformer hit it on the head. These new designers have no idea about old style. All these new cars are lookin like those saion or however you spell it. If they are going to build the hornet I feel they should allow some of the more exper hudson owners to have the majority of the input. Just because someone has a piece of paper on the wall that says they went to school for 4 to 6 years doesn't mean they are the right person for the job. I'll stick to my orig. At this rate they will be worth a small fortune. Lately all I hear about are hudsons. People in the local gas stations have been talking about them. Sometimes we stop in when I'm working on the ambulance. They have no idea what is parked in my garage. I just sit there and listen. Oh, and smile to myself. Hold on to your rides people. I feel were sittin on a great investment. But thats just my opinion.
