Comment added. Even if your sentiments have been expressed by somebody else - consider this a petition of sorts. You never know what eyes may read this nor what the result may be. Comment, if nothing else express your distaste for the Hornet name being used like this - and become yet another member of the dissent.

I do like the car, 170hp turbo around town would be a blast. I know of other Senior Citizens who are buying the Mini Cooper for the manueverability and the ease of entry for the old joints. This car with the rear door opening actually improves on that. But, as I said in my comment don't name it the Hornet name it the Jet, another small boxy car I like.0 -
I'm in !!! My wife's personal car is a Jeep Grande Cherokee. It's the last Chrysler I'll ever buy if they dare smear the fabulous Hudson Hornet name by putting it on that contraption !!0

I'd buy one for a commuter car. They are pretty neat looking, actually! But call it anything original, anything unused, but not Hornet.0

I think I'm beginning to see the plot here, and I don't like it, due to the desecration of the "Hornet" name, by pinning it on that Mini Cooper wannabe. When the movie "Cars" comes out in a few months, a whole new generation will suddenly become aware of the Hudson again, and the Hornet logo. A lot of very impressionable kids are gonna be buying toys (spinoffs) from this movie, and pretending they're "Doc" Hudson or whatever, and when they and their Dads or Moms go looking for real wheels, at the local Chrysler dealership, you can bet your bottom dollar the car in the showroom labeled the "Hornet" is gonna twig an interest !! At the very least, they'll want to know why the car is badged this way, and from there it'll be the usual sales pitch about "outstanding performance" with "family" or "first car" pricing etc. etc.
I concede this is very smart marketing technique on the part of Chrysler, but am horrified that the Hornet name could wind up on such a vehicle. Yeah, I know Mom or Dad, or the twenty-something first new car buyer crowd would be buying in the low to mid range price probably ten to one or more over a muscle car, so they'll probably look at a rebadged Charger or Magnum or 300 Hemi as a "Hornet", drool a bit, and then go sign up for the bread and butter wheels. It'll be icing on the cake for Chrysler if they're buying these things as much for the name, as the actual features of the car.
Look out Ford and Chevy -- you're gonna get left in the dust on this one, 'cause you can't use the Hudson names !!
Downright scary !!
Just my two bits worth ---

You are probably dead on the money there. Everything these days has to have a tie-in to something else, so your reasoning is likely spot-on.0
