1952 Wasp transmission question

I just recently got this car and have only driven it a couple of times. When I go to accelerate in Drive 4 or drive 3, it switches gears on me way too fast. Is this a common problem? What action should I take?

  • SHIFT POINTS CAN BE CHANGED BY LENGTHENING OR SHORTENING THE THROTTLE PRESSURE ROD. THE LONG ROD FROM BELL CRANK ON TOP LEFT REAR SIDE OF ENGINE BLOCK THAT GOES TO TRANS, TAKE TWO 7/16TH WRENCHES AND GO FOR A RIDE, KEEP STOPPOING AND TURN NUTS TWO REVS AT A TIE UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT, THERE IS ABOUT 2 INCHES OF THREADED ADJUSTMENTS AT THE BELL CRANK, GOOD LUCK, bill albright 35 year Hudson restorer
  • Bill's right about adjusting the trans linkage. While your at it, you Might want to check the rear motor mounts, especially the drivers side.
  • My '54 Wasp does the same thing, I'm sure I need to adj. as per Bill A., but for now I just "hold my foot into it", as to delay the shift.
