Stripping Paint
I finally got the inside of the body sprayed with rust inhibitor, and undercoating, and got down to the nitty gritty of getting the outside down to the metal. I used Aircraft Stripper, at first, which made the paint bubble up in less than 5 minutes. The stuff under the paint, was another story. Not sure if it's original, but from the metal, there's a coat of reddish brown primer. My guess it's the self-etching type, because that was the hardest layer to remove. After that layer, there were several coats of white primer, which I'm guessing to be the filler primer, since it was so thick. Then a light coat of grey primer, then the paint. Bondo was used in a few spots, just to even out inperfections in the metal. I ended up using my drill, and a 3M paint removing wheel, to finally get to the metal. I spent the better part of the weekend, and got both quarterfenders, and the trunk area stripped. I got the paint off the top, but will use the 3M wheel next weekend to get it stripped completely. I attached some pictures to show the progress. Temps were in the upper 50's, so it was perfect working just outside my shop, and with all the safety gear I had on, it was quite comfortable.

Hi Wes,
Great to see that you are protecting your health, firstly, and that you are making tons of progress, doing it right TOO!
Have you selected your color (s) as yet?
Cheers to you,
John0 -
Take care of those Wide Whites, they look pretty good and the stripper could mess them up!0

John, my wife picked out a 2000 Ford Chestnut Metallic, as the main color, but we're not 100% on the second color. I'm just sure I want it "two toned". Brian, I'm taking good care of the wide whites, because I'm going to sell them when I'm closer to finishing this project. I've ordered some Magnum 500 wheels, just like on Rudy Bennett's car, and will be running Goodyear Eagle radials. When I'm ready, I'll be selling 5 wheels, complete with tires, hubcaps, and trim rings. I'm not sure what to ask, so I'll put them on Ebay, but I'll be sure to post them here, so people on this Forum will at least know about them.0
