Manifold installation

I will be installing a new (used) exhaust manifold on my 308 and plan to use brass nuts. Has anyone done this? If so, did you use lock washers? Also did you use Loctite or anti-seize compound or any other material on the threads?

Thanks

Ed

Make sure you tighten the manifolds (exhaust/intake) against the block first before you tighten the intake down on the exhaust. If not it will probably crack the exhaust manifold down the road.
  • Hi Ed,

I have used brass nuts on my 1929 Chrysler and others with no problems. I also feel that Loktite or anti seize will just burn off. I have never used lock washers with brass nuts as the steel lock washers will gall the brass nuts even more than a steel nut and I've never had them loosen up on me.

    Good luck,

    John

  • Ditto on the stainless with lock washers. Works great. I don't use anti seize, but have a friend that swears by it.

For an anti-seize try using graphite. It will not burn away.
