replacing rear motor mounts
The rubber pads supporting the Hydra-matic in my 53 Hornet look pretty much shot. This may explain the slight vibration telegraphing through the dashboard during downshifts into low gear. I got a pair of replacements from K-Gap but need some instructions on the repair. I did not see a section on this in the stepdown shop manual. I'd appreciate some guidance from fellow HET club members. Thanks very much. I have a pair of ramps to elevate the front end and a floor jack. Best wishes. Art

Place a 2 by 4 under trans pan lift gently, watching till you unload engine and trans weight from mounts. Jack should be centered under pan so it lifts evenly. Remove bolts , 5/8s or 11/16s wrench if memory serves. The old mounts tend to sag down so you may need to raise jack some, you also may need an alignment punch . Hopefully this helps, and you can get car high enough to get under. Hudsonly Lou0

Getting everything to line up correctly can be a pain. I put them all in loose then tighten everythng up. On my 53 I also found it helpful to loosen the trans cross member so you could wiggle enerything around a little so the bolts would thread. Just get under the car (on jack stands)(safety first), give your self room to move, support the trans with a jack and go for it.

Thanks, Lou and Jay for the heads-up on bolt alignment. I'll get myself a large drift pin to help line everything up. I figure around 40-50 ft-lbs per bolt to tie it all up.
