49 Starter Problem Solved
thanks for everyone who responded. Turns out my zest for making things pretty bit me in the ass. The paint on the engine and the starter acted as an insulator and I had no ground. Removed the paint and all is well. Lost a day, but thats life. Moral of the story is make sure that if you are painting your motor and or starter, be sure to tape off the areas where the starter mounts against the engine.
