Hi I live in the North of Sweden, and this is my first time writing anything in this forum so my english might be bad.

I recently bought a 48 commodore six 4dr from Arizona that is an objekt and it needs restoration.

I am going to fix all the mechanical first then the body. A couple of days ago I took out the bellhousing, trans and overdrive and it looks like it might be missing 1 or more linkage that i think should sit on the overdrive. I'd like to get some information about how all the linkage, wires on the trans and around it works and preferably pictures, drawings of it as it should be.

  • First, have you inquired at the Svenska Hudsonklubben? They are in Sweden. On the Internet at http://www.autosite.se/hudson/main.htm .

Secondly, the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club has a Club Store which sells Hudson repair manuals, which will help you. I believe that one must be a member of the Club to purchase items from the Store. You can find the H-E-T Club online at http://www.hudsonclub.org/
  • I have the same setup in my garage, D. This is a 'single lever' transmission. The other 'lever', about 5cm long, is near the top rear of the transmission proper, and is operated by a cable that loops around from the end of the shift rod. There is another small lockout lever on the left side of the overdrive that is operated by a 'choke' cable which goes to the round operator at the right of the steering column under the dash.
You should buy a Shop Manual from the club store which has all the mechanical information you need and wiring diagrams for everything. Go the the main HET page which will guide you to the store.

Essentially, the circuit to the solenoid is an AND circuit which goes from the ignition switch thru the OD solenoid on the left inner fender, thru the kickdown switch under the accelerator thru the lockout switch at the rear of the OD and thru the governor (which switches at about 28mph)on the top right of the OD. Another circuit in the relay, momentarily shorts the ignition when the kickdown switch is operated to take the stress off the unit so it can release to regular drive.
  • Thanks guys for the quick answers, my father is a member of the Swedish Hudson club, and I'm going to join it soon. I'll try to get a manual in Sweden but I think it might be hard to get one here (I'm not sure). But if I can't I'll get one from the HET-Club.

    Thanks again guys.
