Bendix won't engage flywheel
I have a different problem than my Bendix sticking. The first time I cranked the car after installing an adapter plate to put an 350 transmission on my old flathead six engine, the car turned over perfectly and actually cranked. However, when I gave it some gas, the bendix was apparently still stuck in the flywheel and made a popping, then a scraping sound. Now the bendix will not engage the flywheel, but appears to be shaving the tips of the gears on the bendix off. Are there adjustments that I can make using shims that can correct it without taking the motor and/or transmission back out? Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
