Need Some H8 Advice
The 50 C8 is coming together nicely, however I am not completely happy with the engine noise. There seems to be some valve lifter noise, not terrible by any means but a bit worse than other H8s I have heard. The valves have been adjusted several times, but the sound persists. Kind of like a Chevy OHV 6 sound. It has only been run about 30 or so minutes total since the engine got back together, so it may just need to run a bit to get things broken in? But if any of you 8 folks out there have any suggestions let me know.
Thanks

Have you adjusted the valves with the engine warmed up and running, setting them to the spec'd "warm engine" clearances? If so, you're likely hearing something other than valve noise. You'll typically get some whining from the timing gears (unless you've installed a rare matched set), but that's a lot different from valve noise. These 8s are pretty quiet when all's well. One person not familiar with them commented, after hearing a good one run up, that it sounded like the car just had an electric motor under the hood.0

When You Rebuilt The Engine, Did You Have The Lifters Reground On The Surface That Mates With The Camshaft?

Randy no I did not and that may indeed be the problem.0
