Waking up NYC

I live in Wilton Ct and commute to Jersey City, about 60miles. I leave at 5.30 am and get in by 6.45. Today was fun though because the I drove my 54 hornet sedan. I went over the Henry Hudson Bridge , down the West Side Highway and through the Holland Tunnel. The Car ran terrific as always. Driving a stepdown in NYC in 2006 during Rush hour is the Hoot. Not only does it handle as good as my AUDI but cruises better with a softer ride. It's amazing to me that so many people that I work with think I'm nuts. Maybe I am but I luvv Hudsons and I think we should share the art work with others. I got more thumbs and beeps than I could imagine. I guess most New Yorkers that do the same commute as I have never seen a Step Down.

It's kind of neat to think about the last time a Stepdown wandered the westside highway and went throught the Holland tunnel. I feel the need to do my share to Advertize for the Movie. Happy Hudsoning.

  • Most of us could not have said it any better.... nice job.
  • harry54, now that is a story worth telling!

Mannnny people never heard of a Hudson!

I recently obtained the ORIGINAL 308 engine, numbers-matching, for my 54 HSWH that sat on a garage floor in CA since 1959. 2 days from now the stripped block, etc., goes to the machine shop for all the things necessary to rebuild one. This one I'll rebuild - not too old yet!

This a.m. I heard a song on the radio about "Get your kicks on Route 66". Well, we plan to drive this car (54 Super Wasp Hollywood) to Vegas-then-Hollywood, Ca in 2008, along Route 66 much of the way, hoping to be there for the grand opening of the new Hoover Dam Bridge near Las Vegas. I know we'll get plenty of verbal encouragement at restaurant's and stop-overs, and thumb's up from other distant driver's,. Why, the man who delivered the car here from Hemet, CA, told me he could have sold it a half dozen times along the 1650 mile journey while it sat on the 2nd level of his auto carrier.

What beautiful memories these cars bring back.

By 2008 I should have AC/heat/defrost, and a good sound sys., a sound engine, a non-leaking tranny (200-4R, Grand national upgrade) & a few other enhancements. If things go really well in the interim, we may not wait til 2008 to make the trip. I stopped at Sam's in the 54 the other day and pulled over to talk with the overseer who knows Hudson's and almost instantly 3 people joined our meeting. It's amazing what a "magnet" the Hudson automobile is.

harry54, I hope you drive it more often to work; more of us should drive them more. I can hardly wait til I get this conversion complete. It ought to be awesome when complete.

In the interim, it's driveable now; on the 20th there is the monthly cruise-in at Sonic, and I'll probably drive it over for a couple hours of reunion.

    Regards

    54 HSWH

Thanks for sharing that great up and coming event. I have to tell you, I luv the Wasp and I can't wait to see your Super Wasp Hollywood someday. Sounds like your going to create a terrific highway Car. The upgrades should work well. You have a rare car and I know what you mean about people luving Hudsons when you drive by. Please keep me in tune with the progress. Good luck...
  • Bill, here's a photo - hope it works; this was last July. It still doesn't have all the SS on it, but has the correct size www radial tires and the hubcaps on it. Looking a lot better

Looks great! I would like to know how your 200-4R upgrade goes. I prefer it to the 700 R4 but most really poopoo the 200 although it saw great action on the GNs.
  • Nice car!!!

Dan, I hope you meant "pooh pooh." I had a tranny poo-poo'd once, and I really gave my dog heck for it!
