Wiring Harness Poll (Please Participate)

Would like input on complete wiring harness fo 54 Hornet Special. I know there is Rhoad Island and Y&Z. As this is a large amount of money I want to go first rate. So if you guys that have done this would HELP!!! Would also like a harness that is well marked. One that kind of walks you through process. I am counting on all you Hudson peolpe.

I HAVE USED BOTH AND Y AND Z IS FAR SUPERIOR AND HAS TWO INSTRUCTION SHEETS, EACH WIRE IS NUMBERED AND TH4E SHEET TELLS .. YOU WHAT AND WHERE TO HOOK IT UP. i AM SURE THOSE WHO USED RHODE ISLAND THINK THEY ARE GOOD, BUT HAVE THEY COMPARED BOTH????

I was satisfied with the service I got from Rhoad Island wiring. I did a 39 Hudson and everything was well marked with easy instrutions. Great people to deal with. Good luck Gene.

I never tried Y&Z but have used Rhode Island for my '50. Did a nice job and even made a Supermatic harness using my connectors.

I used a RI wiring harness on my 51 coupe. I don't know about Y&Z, but the coding on the RI wires are exact matches as the factory had. I am sure that someone knows if Y&Z wiring harnesses are exact factory matches. Since Bill A has used both harnesses, he should have that answer!

I'm using Y and Z for a harness for my 50 Super Six Brougham, based mostly on the good words from Bill A and others. I have used RI in the past and was quite satisfied though. I think that Y&Z has done more Hudsons so they might be a lil more familiar with the beast.



Also it seems to me that Y&Z was like 20 bucks cheaper...

I am surprised no one has mentioned Narragansett Reproductions also from Rhode island. I am considering buying the bulk wire and connectors from them and making my own harness. www.narragansettreproductions.com.

The same people do Narragansett and RI Wiring harnesses. I found Rhode Island Wiring great to work with, and their data sheets have had all the installation instructions one could want. And they'll custom tailor a harness if you just tell them what you want done (I expect YnZ will do the same).

I used Y&Z on my 51 Commodore coupe and was very satisfied. they did'nt have some of the harness, so I sent mine and they made it at no extra charge. Excellent quailty.

I used a YnZ for my 49 Conv...the quality is good, but I was less than impressed with the diagrams/instructions, some of which were incorrect. I have purchased from Rhode Island for two other cars (Packard and Studebaker) and found the quality just as good and, the service a bit faster and the instructions more detailed. The only reason I did not buy from RI on the Hudson was because they did not offer one for a Conv. That all being said, I definately would order from YnZ again. It is a darn nice harness.

well, I thouht I would put in my 2 cents worth I have a Y & Z harness for my 54 Hornet sedan with power brakes a Y & Z harness fro my 29 and a RI Harness for my 52 Comm 8 Convert. The harness for the 29 came all set up for the junction block on the wrong side of the fire wall, the 54 came with a few minor problems with the motor harness and the 52 has problems in the area of the big knot of wires on the drivers side inner fender. None of this has been serious or would keep me from orderiing from eiher again... well execpt for a 29 which is so simple I woulld make it up myslef.... the point here is that they are replacements and you should expect a small amout of problems with any of them. The real trick is how well they fix the problems. Nonen of my problems required that I send the harness back and both companies did an OK job on the fixes...but RI was far easier to deal with.

Also, If RI deos not have a listing for your car, check out the part numbers for what they have listed against what you need in a Hudson parts book. When you know what will fit your car, they will mix and mach untill you have what you need. My 52 required parts they had listed for 52, 53, 49 and 51. This is because they will not list any item to fit a car that they do not have an exact factory diagraim for. This is not the same as the diagram you can find in the owners manual. They sent me one, and it is a very detailed listing of lenths, connectors coleo and gauge for the harness. kinda a cool thing to have

Thanks Lew for your most valued opinion, and to all others that have participated in this harness poll. Sure does help to know of Hudsonites who have dealt with this issue. I don't think it can get any better than this forum with true Hudson lovers!!
