What looks to be a super clean 53 Hornet coupe on ebay. Looks like someone added power steering off a 54. The air cleaners are off a 55 but thats ok. Interior and body look really nice. Wonder what it will go for?

  • Too bad there are no pictures of the underside. What's the concensus on the upholstered trunk? It will probably sell between $15 and 20k, IMHO.

This car was sold at the Portland Swap Meet a week and a half ago to the dealer you see here. The window price on saturday was $28K and had sold Friday morning. Can't imagine the restorer was talked down very much since he sold it so early in the meet.

Not a perfect car, but nice. Doors don't hang right, some silver overspray on rear fenders, and incorrect reverse lights that don't work anyway. Not to mention the power steering and air cleaners. I thought it was a bit over priced for a restored car, but it makes me feel good about my original 53 sedan. I'd be happy if mine was worth half that. Not that I could bring myself to sell...
  • Another thing I noticed was the top of the radiator looks pretty battered.

I think this car will do very well. Collectors are very interested it the 53 coupe. They seem to create a void in alot of collections. Coupes are rare and 53 is the sought after year. The other thing that I think gives this car the thumbs up is the fact that it's a stick with overdrive. That's the exact combo that Collectors with money want. I think the bigger issue is scarcity. If that car rolled across Barret Jackson it would do 35 to 40 thousand. I guess we will see.
  • I think around $20K might be fair on Ebay. With convertible pricing where it is, the eye appeal of coupes will probably bump them up a bunch, if this one sold in the upper 20's as a #2 car as described by "hornet53". You gotta admit, the stepdown coupes have gotta be the best looking of all models!! (Yeah, I know, My opinion!)

And great color, too. And it doesn't get any better in the 50's with a yellow car and a green interior.

    Already bid 18,999.
  • This car was for sale for about a year or more, seller was asking 28500.00 back then and was firm,he might have dealt a little because it was for sale so long.I did not feel real comfortable with the restoration and color combo.so I passed.I like the 52 coupes dash, interior colors better. The air cleaners look wrong to.I do think this car will bid between 25000.00 to 31500.00.I saw an original 53 coupe 96000.00 mile car stored since 1966 sell for 24000.00,was a Calif. car sold to someone in New York it needed a complete restoration.Hudson coupes especially 1952 and 1953 are going to follow the convertibles in price (not as much as convertibles but as convertibles increase the coupes will follow) Hudsons are getting more respect and it way over due, there complete domination of Grand National Stock Car racing (now Nascar) HAS NOT BEEN DUPLICATED TO THIS DAY.Its this type of history along with power options that will keep Hudson strong in the collector market.I know thats why I own one!
  • From everything I have seen on the market, #2 and #1 cars are going easily in the 20's. It is not often you see any Hornet coupes forsale in the first place. Good #4 Coupes (if you can find one) are going for $6,000 to $8,000 ish and they sell FAST at that price.

When you do see any Club coupes available, seems you see alot more 51,52 and 53 Club coupes than the 54 Club coupe. I know that 54's had lower production but I haven't seen a 54 Club coupe forsale in ages.

Guess I am glad I snagged my 54 when I did. Not sure why the 53 is considered so rare or desirable when the 54's were so much different, lower production numbers and higher horsepower engines but I am happy. Now if I could just find a Twin H for it. Even as rare as my car is the first thing I get is does it have Twin H :(
