Clutch Fluid

We just found out we have the wet clutch and not the dry. No fluid was in there at all. Will Type F work good enough or what do we need to mix with it so we can get it going and see if it works better.

The HET store sells the proper fluid. If you want more info on other mixtures used, go up to the top right and click on search. Type in clutch fluid and a list of old threads will be displayed for you to review.

I use the store fluid in my Terraplane. Never knew there was anything else.

It's just Friday night and if I special ordered it I wouldn'y have it here until middle to end of next week. It can't be that special, there must be something that is acceptable or close that we can put in now. I think someoen on here said Type F will work. I know that is all I have seen used with industrial vehicles with hydraulic clutches.

I'd bet there's a HET member in your vicinity that would sell you a bottle. Why take the risk of messing up your cork clutch?

I did a search and found out that many are using ATF without a problem. One search turned up that someone had Hudsonite analyzed and it turned out to be Neatsfoot oil. He supposedly used that without a problem. Didn't make sense to me that it had to be some secret recipe that no one knows. Kind of like the myth that you have to use power steering fluid in your power steering reservoir. I have never used anything but ATF in a P/S unit and never had a problem. I am going to go with the ATF and if it blows I will convert it to a dry clutch and be done with it. Will let everyone know how it flys.

Have been using ATF for over 30 years with no problems, we in Australia all use Dexron 3, some of the Ford Auto fluids will boil at a lower temp causing the clutch to slip, but no problems with the Dexron 3.This fluid can be purchased at any Auto Spare Parts store, so no need to wait.
