new project

Hi I'm new to the site. I will intermittently be needing Hudson info as I am beginning a project.

Its a 49 2 door that my dad has had for many years sitting out in the back yard. He has many projects, from Mopar muscle to 50's Nashes and Imperials.

I myself have always been a Mopar guy, a 70 Superbee (I totaled about 10 years ago), a 70 Coronet 500 (needs paint) and a rust free 66 Coronet driver, and some others.

Recently the Hudson has been peaking my interest. Its basically a shell. No motor, tranny, interior. And very little rust in the floor from sitting.

So the plan is this. A good running 440 out of my 72 Charger. 8 3/4 rear out of a Coronet parts car. 4 speed from a Challenger. A grill out of an old Desoto, 2 old AFB's on a vintage Edelbrock dual quad. And a lot of fabrication. The most expensive part of this project is the new wire feed I'm going to buy with my tax money.

I'll try to take some pics and put them up when I can. I just cleaned out the acorns and leaves 2 days ago. I'm really excited about it. Its cooler every time I see it!

Any one see the vintage custom on ebay? I know the guy that bought it from the original owners wife here in MN.

    Welcome MoHud!

    I'm working on a 49 4-dr Custom for the last 1-1/2++

    I've owned and worked on most kinds of cars - but I really find the Hudson construction is so unique for its time!

    here's a link to my website with a lot of information and pictures if you're interested www.49C8.com

    Mo, just be careful to examine the perimeter frame from the rear wheels on back, before you invest too much money in that shell. If this thing has been sitting out in the yard for years, you may have a great deal of rust there, and inasmuch as the frame is integral to the body, it can be a real chore to restore that frame! Just a word of caution.
  • This thing is very clean. Just a little on the front floor pan. Aparently some kids had it many years ago and stripped it to make a street rod. I believe there are only 20,000 miles on it!!! Rust is no problem. Thanks

    I checked out your site. Looks like we are in somewhat of the same project. Although my car most likely will not look as stock.

    I like some of your ideas and fixes. I'll be hitting you up if I need some more info, if thats ok? I too am sticking with stock front suspension and basic stock body. Mostly drive-train mods and some smoothing out of the exterior.

    You have a bit more fab work fixing rust though. I feel lucky with the condition of my car.

    Hudsons are unique. My dad has always liked them. His first car was a late 40's Hudson, I think in 1965. He still has it. But never restored it. He has too many projects now.

    thanks
