Review of my Generator Woes :-(
First, my plan is to take the generator to the shop along with the regulator to have them both tested, but since I'm off to Disney World for a family vacation I have to wait till I get back to do that. I'm trying to get a better feeling for what's going on here just for enlightenment (and something to look at on my cell phone/PDA while roaming around Mickey's place in Florida for the next week)
Symtoms:
Battery is fully charged
1) press on the start button on dash, nothing (it was working fine and just stopped one morning, I thought it was and may have been a dead battery)
2) hook-up jump pac and push start button, starts right up
3) disconnect jump pack and continues to run
4) disconnect positive batt cable and engine shuts off imediately
5) while the engine is running I am getting a 3.5 volt reading off of the 2 wires coming off of the generator
6) I thought it might be fuel delivery at one point, so cleaned carb screen and replaced fuel filter.
I don't know how the voltage regulator works but am I wrong in thinking that it may be the problem since my starter button doesn't work until I send 12 volts down the wir (overloading my 6 volt regulator), or is it because the generator is not putting out enough juice (3.5 volts) out for the started button to work?
I'm not a motor head or electrical wiz, I'm a body guy so please excuse my ignorance. I'm hoping to learn more here :-)
BTW - is there a vendor selling service manuals online? I haven't seen one on ebay yet.

Also remember you can get these manuals from the Club store. So if you haven't signed up to be a HET member you should as you will get access to a lot of useful resources and a community of Hudnuts.0

If you want to see how much your charging system is putting out, you should measure the voltage across the battery while the car is running. For a 6 volt system you want to read about 7.5 volts going in to the battery.0
