Hudson Paint Suppliers

I am getting close to having my 41 commodore sedan painted. I have selected Regal Red Poly. Does anyone know who can supply the orignal color paint? I showed an original paint chip chart to the bodyshop and they told me that "poly" means pearl and that the paint will have a metallic look to it, very much like the new cars. Is this true? I do not want the car to look like it has a custom paint job on it. All the cars I have seen from this era all seem to have solid paint on them and no metallic at all. HELP!!

  • I use this place. http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/ Very knowledgable and friendly. They have the original formulas and will mix the paint for you in either single state urethane or base/clear, whatever you want. They have descent pricing and ship it to your door via UPS (from California). The other routes can go is find a better shop that will do the research for you and get the formula (or a modern color that crosses over). Or, you can take an original part from the car that still have some good paint on it and they can zap it with tool they use to read the pigments, download it into the computer and mix it on the spot based on that. I have gone that way before with very good results. As a matter of fact, I did that with my 49 heater box and got a dead on match. Looks great. Doing the same thing for my conv top header.

    Hope that helps.
  • Thanks for the info. I will check them out first thing tommorw.
