the dipstick is located beneath a cover on the passenger side of the hump. the cover is a about 2 1/2 in dia and pops out. check it in neutral warmed up and idling. if there is no slit in your carpetting, you will need to pull it loose and out of the way. add fluid through this hole as well.0

Given the level of expertise and knowledge expressed by the members on this forum, I'm surprised that no one has fabricated an extension tube and dip stick mod to help solve this.0

actually dave, i've seen the dipstick mod done, i'm thinking tube and dipstick came from a hash but i'm nut sure, its been quite a while since seeing it. and i must disagree that it was not a great innovation, its conveinience was just never noted. You can use a funnel in the hole while driving as a speaker, the song of transmission will tell you when fluid is needed. this handy feature, a bad front seal and a case of transmission fluid got me to and from the waterbury national without stopping to tend to the transmission.0

nick s,
Now that's what I call being creative. Bet following the fluid trail made getting back home a breeze. Maybe you should look into marketing your idea as an offical "Hudson Automatic Trans Fluid Filler" accessory. LOL0 -

Now that there is some funny stuff! That reminds me of the hole i had in the floorboard to shift my Fairlane into gear.0 -
Or the soup can, complete with homemade wire hook, hanging under the leaking fuel line fitting on a 1937 Ford cabover truck I drove for a guy to pick up hay bales in the field when I was a lad. Engine (flathead V8) had no cover, so was right beside me, purring away at a soothing 90 dB or so, efficiently heating the cab, as well as emitting the usual blowby, exhaust, and of course, the leaking gas. He told me to watch the can, and when it got half full, empty it out the window. The safety meeting consisted of him saying "Don't spill it in the truck, or it could cause a fire" (ya think?). Not sure how I ever made it out of my childhood alive.0
