Too much compression ratio?

Would a 262 iron head that has been milled about .047 have too high a compression ratio when used on an otherwise stock 308 bored .060 over?

  • No, the compression ratio will be OK, however, you will need to check the exhaust valve to combustion chamber clearance. With the head cut that amount the cam lift will bring the the exhaust valve top very close to the head. With a stock camshaft and the engine block not decked more than .015 you should be OK but you should still check it.

I am running a 262 with a 232 head cut .040 and a non stock cam and my exhaust valves clear the head about .080 and the compression is 160.
