Hard to see, but it almost looks like there is a "Commodore" emblem at the back edge of the hood.

Common application - add the Commodore script or put a Commodore hood on the vehicle - instant Commodore pickup truck.

I saw one at one of the Nationals - Commodore 8. Uh huh - it had a Hudson straight 8 in the engine compartment - also a common transplant for 46-47 Hudson trucks, along with the Hornet 308. For a 3/4 ton truck 46-47's were a tad underpowered with the 212 six in there so a lot of them were "converted".

Some of the 308 transplants were used to haul Hornet stock cars to race tracks - if you blew the engine in the Hornet, pull the engine out of the truck and transplant. I saw a couple of these "Hornet" powered trucks at a race or two back in the mid-50's - but I never saw a Hornet blow an engine. One guy did wreck his Hornet one night during the 1st heat of a 3 heat race. Drove the truck in the 2nd heat, but eliminated. Not enough weight in the back, and he spun out and wrecked it. I think he walked home that night.

Stan Lupka, dirt track champ, Dusty Doyle hall of famer, said he NEVER blew a Hudson engine in a race. This includes splasher 6s and 8s, 308s and his special 299.9 made from a 308 crank and a bored 262 to get around the 300 inch track limit. He was still grinning in his mid 80s just before he passed on in 04.
  • I like the Mercury Montclair Convertible, nice grill and fender skirts. Looks like they have a '65 Continental 4 door for sale as well. Used to have a '64 4dr w/ the suicide doors.....what a cool driver, until I blew the engine on Hwy 50 towards Tahoe one night and caught the car on fire!

  • This auction is about 4 miles from my store. He was a fine fellow, very meticulate with his stuff. He owned this truck I believe about 7-8 yrs. I dont think he did much to it. I seen it upclose then it needed painted. Looks like its now a different color. had almost no rust that I remember. He has a lot of cool stuff and lots of tools. would be an auction worth going to. Not that far off of main road rt23 South of Columbus. I gave him a WTN when I met him. not sure if he ever joined.
  • Auction closed at $12,200. who bought it does anyone know

    thanks
