I caught the end of this on Good Morning America on Sunday or Monday last week. I was just flipping channels and was supprised to see a Hudson with Paul Newman and Owen Wilson answering questions in front of it. Did anyone else see this? I found some pics at this site...

That was the big Cars promotion show they put on at the Coca Cola World 600 race at Charlotte (Lowes) Motor Speedway. Promotion was done on Friday before the Coke 600.

Don't know who's Hudson that is, tho. Wonder why they tacked that spoiler on the rear - don't look right.

    Hudsonly,

  • Later on after the interview Humpy Wheeler presented Neuman with a Highway 61 die cast replica of a Hudson. Word has it Humpy Wheeler was the guy that Pixar came to when he said the old NASCAR circuit was dominated by Hudsons so the wise old judge in the movie should be a Hudson! Pixar agreed .

Why do you think the car would not go over 100mph ???????
  • Is that a fiberglass body on that car?
  • Harry54 and I were talking about that this AM. The rear quarter panel looks twice as long and the roof line looks strange..... perhaps the picture is distorted?

It's got to be a fiberglass body. Look at the door post in the first picture. The body does look long and distorted, and I have never seen a Hudson with eyes in the windshield.

Hey at least they are promoting the picture with a Hudson. That's because we have been buying up all the Doc Hudson toys out there.
  • FYI...

Gunnar Racing Palm Beach Florida built the Newman car... see the following :

There are other Porsche guy ties to CARS. Kevin Jeanette of Gunnar Racing has built the life-size "Doc Hudson" with Pixar. He hand fabricated an entire body based off original Hudson as the basis of the character car. An amazing piece of fabrication work, especially the front fascia smile. That isn't where it ends....the body has been fastened to a full-functioning Petty racetruck chassis, which is targeted to be driven for exhibition at the Charlotte 600 by another Porsche guy, Paul Newman, the voice of Doc Hudson. I'm heading off to the premiere at Charlotte Motor Speedway this Friday evening for the first public showing of CARS, which will take place in a outdoor theater set up inside the track.

Typical show-biz waste. IMHO, they should have simply bought a REAL coupe and done much better for far less spent. Regardless, it is good advertising for the marque.
