CV Quarter window repair
On the bottom of the frame for the rear quarter window for a step-down convertible is a cast piece that is riveted to the frame. This is connected to another piece that is then connected to the hinge. The cast piece broke.
The welder says it can't be welded and if he could it probably wouldn't hold.
Has anyone else had this problem and what was the solution? Is there one short of finding a window with a good part? Has anybody made this part?

I think me and hudsondad spoke with you at pittsburg in 2004.
Also, would the hollywoods have a similar piece?
anybody able to sandcast one locally?0 -
Larry... common problem.... to fix it you must find a replacement or if you or someone you knows has the machining skills you can make one. Recent advances in imaging allow parts to be cloned. The imaging technique uses a 3 D approach and scans the target from 360 degrees. Software creates a solid picture of the object imaged... and this image is sent to a CADAM software interface where a three axis milling program can be created. I am not sure if there are folks who do this commercially for the public. But, it is used in the Aircraft and Defense industries to take prototypes to production. Check with HIGH END modeling shops ... there are several in AUSTIN Texas that specialize in this process... not cheap... but if there is sufficent market... the task is realtively simple and the product can be available in a matter of days. Some of the California posters who work in Aerospace may have West Coast contacts too... Seattle and LA are definately places where this capability exists.0

Larry I Think I Have A Few In Cars Up On The Farm What Side Do You Needc?0

Paul, I need the right side. I may already have a line oon one here in Michigan but I have to wait for him to come home from the Central Regional meet in Alabama. He's also looking for a window for me at that meet. If that doesn't pan out I will contact you.
Hudsonkid, sorry its not for sale. Yes, I was in Pittsburgh. I don't know if the Hollywood window has the same part.
Ken, that's sounds a little expensive for one but if there was a big demand from others it might not be a bad deal. Every convertible owner should have spares if it is a common problem.

I found a welder who thought he could weld the part. Had it done this afternoon. I'll try to put it in tonight and then I'll see if it holds. I'll cross my fingers.0
