was reading the minnesota street rod mag. there is a bondo bill that the federal legislators are trying to pass. it would prevent anyone from doing their own bodywork and painting at their residence. get in touch with your fed leg by phone, email or letters and ask them to vote no on this bill

There's been rumors of something like this floating around for over 20 years. Do you have any more exact information - like the trade rag you read the information in or the legislative bill number?

It won't do much good to call anyone to voice an opinion without further information because the maroon at the other end of the phone will be saying..."Whaaa...t?"

PErsonally I doubt something like this would pass nationwide as a total ban - but todays catalyzed paints and fill primers are toxic in the worst way.
30 Years ago when all we used was lacquer based paint and primer the chemical issues were not really a factor

Normally I am anti-big-government-stay-outta-my-business but I I do think the cottage industry or hobbyist should be regulated in a way that protects their rights to do that type of work balanced with the need to protect others in the area against exposure to these chemicals.

Some of these backyard bondo jobs are so bad they should be outlawed! LOL

I can think of 2 or 3 guys who would qualify for the nickname "Bondo Bill."

Come on guys - the Ramblers I drove for years only got thru state inspections thanks to bondo, fiber glass and the the sheet metal sides off washing machines and dryers!!!

As for paint, huh. Spray can of primer worked just fine to cover up a lot of stuff.

And I never sold one of these cars - usually junked them when they got to the 90/10 stage (90% bondo and fiber glass/10% metal). LOL
