Where are all the 54 Club Coupes? I have only been into Hudsons for a couple years but I've been to Reno , the Western Meet and avidly perused the internet ads, WTN and forum for two years now. I have found Hudsons everywhere (including a farm in Idaho) and I have bought five Hudsons: four Hornet coupes and a Commodore. I have seen many 54 Hornet convertibles (ten or so), many 51, 52 and 53 Hornet Hollywoods, converts and Club Coupes but have only seen three 54 Club Coupes (Vic Zamora's at Lloyd's shop, I bought one and the other sold on e-bay to a fella in Australia). I have also seen two 54 Hornet brougham coupes. I know production for 54 Hornets was significantly less than previous years. Obviously there are more people who own these. Is it just me or is everyone hiding their 54 Hornet Coupes?

Well, I have a 1954 hornet club coupe with a factory continental kit. It has a numbers matching 308 with twin h and the 4 speed automatic. It needs a "full on" restoration and deserves it. Ive been upgrading parts as I can afford and will do my best to make it a "to die for Hudson". l plan on adding air conditioning and 12 volts since im in SoCal but otherwise it will be a hand rebuilt and blueprinted stocker.
  • Niels, Coupe production was never very prominent with Hudson. That's one reason that people desire them. Another factor was that of those that did get produced ,many wound up as race cars at both the national level and the local level. Even though 1954 was the actual longest production run for Hudson,it was not the most productive run. If you discount the number of Jets from the grand total produced,it was a pitiful run. All of thses add up to some of the reasons they're in short supply.Another RARE 54 was the 54 Hornet Special brougham. Fewer of them around than the club coupe!
  • I happen to have both a 54 Hornet Club Coupe and a 54 Hornet Special Brougham for

sale. Both need restoration. Price is $5000 for the pair.

What Kind Of Shape Are They In ?
  • I also own a 54 Hornet Club Coupe, you may have seen it at Reno last year it is bright red. As for production figures with only 24833 of all types of Hornets produced in 54 , the majority of which were 4 doors. That you saw 8 54 convertables at Reno last year was more than were at the 2004 National in Pittsburg which featured the 54.s was impressive. Northwest Chapter Preside

I've got a 54 Special 2 dr sedan. I have seen one other that was for sale in Michigan and was posted here and a friend in our local gave me a picture of a real sharp green one from a couple of years back. No one knows where it is now.
  • I have a '54 Hornet Club Coupe, and a '54 Club Coupe parts car as well as a '54 Hornet Special sedan. In the Mountains of East Tennessee.
  • have a 54 hornet coupe with running engine and bw trans, nice dash and iterior, needs some bodywork and paint at 5K here at VINTAGE COACH, FONTANA, CA EMAIL albrighthudsons@msn.com
  • Bill,

Would the body work needed be rust repair on one of those "rust free California cars"

    or just dents and such?
  • keyword "bodywork" not frame repair. probably needs rockers, and rear quarter, like most 54's. seems to be the weak spot on these....

    keyword: never assume anything...
  • keyword: TRUE!
  • Bill sent me some pictures. Looks pretty straight to me. If I got it I would be media blasting the body. Looks like great base to start.

  • yeah, that looks like a good one. Like I said, rockers, and some work in the quarters. Actually, the quarters look decent. Maybe a little mud from the past, but I bet the underside is nice, if it is a california car. Too bad Bill isn't closer.

The real deal was the 49 coupe he has/had. I like 54's but that other coupe was super nice, and only $1000 more, if memory serves right....
  • My experience, when Bill says it's rust free, it is. The '51 Hornet Convert I got from him was exactly as advertised. There is absolutely no rust anywhere other than some surface stuff where the paint had blistered or chipped. Underneath, it's just got a real light coat wherever there's bare metal. If anybody's really interested, they would save the cost of shipping across the country in just rust repairs! Just my two cents worth but Southwest and Nevada cars are as rust free as you're going to get.
