I have found a few suppliers of 1/4" stainless welting but they list it for old fords and older fords and they are not clear about what it really is. has anyone had experience with stainless welting and have an opinion / suggestion as to how i should proceed ? This is for a 46 com.

thanks in advance.

This is for a fender? I would have thought that standard black neoprene (or whatever they use) would be original. Not stainless.
  • bllalck is fine for the SUPER series car, but all COMMODORES used the chrome or sdtainless beaded lacing on the rear fenders.. the Ford stuff is what you need. BILL ALBRIGHT
  • hi there, jon, everyone, for my 37 t-coupe i need the welting/rubber between fenders/body complete all around body. o.k. but hard and brittle, might as well do it one day. some one told me to go to v-wagoon for it. any hints ? did v-w use same thing fenders to body ? thanks, dermot.

For plain black fender welting go to Restoration Specialties in Windber, Pa. http://www.restorationspecialties.com/ , click on CATALOG, go to page 99. They do mention a 'chrome-like" welting on that page...not sure if that's a Hudson match, though.

I have a '47 Commodore 8 sedan and I got my rear stainless fender welting from bobdrake reproductions. (www.bobdrake.com) It was for fords as you said and it came in an 8 ft shipping tube. I drilled tiny holds on the lip of the rear fender and riveted the welting in place before bolting the fenders on....works great looks great.

My 54 Special has the stainless trim along the length of the car and it is pretty dinged up from probably parking lots. Is there any replacements for these or does anyone straighten them?
  • k-gap has what you need for the 37 t-coupe

    464,

If you mean the long stainless steel trim strips, I've seen some pretty rough candidates that have been hammered, filed, sanded and buffed to look like new again. It does take some time and/or money though. It is a pretty time consuming task.

I couldn't find any replacements for my car, which was my first choice also, and ended up restoring the originals instead.
  • have some good used and a few NOS 54 HORNETSPEC/WASP TIM ALBRIGHTS VINTAGE COACH
  • thannks for the info.... i have ordered from bob drake. he has 1/4" w/1-1/4" leg for $25 a stick (8'-0") plus fed-ex. so for about only $85 i will be able to install the newly painted base coat / clear coat fenders on the car. (its BLACK) can't hardly wait.
