Rotation Pattern for National Meets

A long time East Region member recently suggested we look at changing the rotation pattern for the National Meets, from the current West to East "sweep" (West, Big Country, Central, East), to make it West, Central, Big Country, East. This scheme, alternating between the two west and the two east Regions, would put a National no more than "one Region away" from everyone at least every other year (For the Big Country and Central folks, the National would be in their own Region or "next door" three years out of four!). What do you think about this, folks? Of course implementation would have to be done at the right time to make it a smooth transition. The question here is whether this pattern would be better than the current one. Let's have some dialogue here.

It seems to make perfect sense to change this pattern. It would especially benefit those in Central, and East, where I'm guessing there are more Hudsons. In looking at the club roster, it seems like there are probably more in the East than the West, with a big exception, of course for California, which seems to have the most cars and owners.

Not to digress, but I was actually a little disappointed that more California Hudsons weren't at the Nationals in Reno last year. I expected a much bigger turnout, but I'm sure there are reasons it didn't happen. Of course, the pillars of the HET West were there...Bill A., Walt M., etc., but where were all of those other California Hudsons that only lived a day from there?

Mine's wasn't ready yet! But agree, hudsonguy, that the rotation change seems to make sense.

Put me down for the proposed change- makes perfect sense, and gives everyone a reasonable shot at attending at least every other year.
  • Yeah, sounds good, why not.
  • Just keep it out of Alaska or Hawaii.

Hey, why not include the South Pacific, and you all come down here once in a while???

    Geoff.
  • My Terraplane probably doesn't float...just a guess! LOL!

When Australia beats Brazil in Soccer then maybe we can discuss being in your neighborhood- LOL I was really rooting for AUS. Too bad, I really wish they would have beat 'em.
  • Even though I am not an HET member yet ( I will join up shortly), I think the rotation idea is great. One of the other Marques that I was a club member did that and it gave everyone the chance to go at least every couple or three years.

Hey, a National meet in Hawaii would be a hoot!!! Charter a 747 cargo plane to fly the cars over - or maybe somebody could convince the Air Force to loan us a C5 Galaxie they could write off as a "training flight"!!! LOL

I'm Impressed In Park We Have A National Director From The East Who Thinks About The Club And It's Members And Asks Before Changing Things You Get A Go For It From Me Park It Sounds Great!!!
  • I don't think the proposed change is that major, that it will affect anything too much.

My druthers would be to have it on the east coast always, but that's never going to happen. Personally it does seem the HET club does try to spread it out all over the country to make it fair....

C5, ha! The Russians will rent you the Antonov AN-225 which has approximately 310,000lbs greater payload capacity than the C5! Have them mount the "Buron" (Russian space shuttle) and you can stick a few more Huds in its cargo bay!

While we are talking National Meets, the next Australian National Meet (they are held every 2 years) is being held in the first week of October 2007 at Toowoomba, Queensland.

And from an Australian perspective the US National meet should preferably be held between Christmas and New Year (most of us are on holiday then) and always be within an area bounded by say San Diego, Palm Springs and Santa Barbara (within a 2 hour drive from Los Angeles airport)

Hmmm...common sense idea...easier for people to make plans and not travel so far...also make logistical sense in terms of getting people in their cars and on the road to the show...HET will never go for it!
  • when is the national gonna be in Calgary?

Hey folks, I enjoy all the ancillary comments, but could we also have some more opinions on whether we should change to this proposed pattern? I want to have a decent sampling before suggesting the Board of Directors spend some time on the issue at Kearney. Thanks to everyone for responding!
  • Hi Park,---Cliff Minard here & I think it is a great idea. Go for it.

    Hi Park W,

We could setup a polling thread to ask the question and vote on it. That would give you a better statistical sampling and verifiable results...just a thought...

I never thought about the matter before, but it does seem a good idea. In my case, (living on the East Coast) it's famine for two or three years followed by a feast or two. Would be nicer to have feast/famine/feast!

For example, I didn't get to the National last year and won't this year, because they're so far away. But in 2007-8-9 I have three years of feast, because the meets will all be located from Detroit to Boston. I'd much prefer to have a "national" in my driving range ("one region away" or closer) every other year.

It's a great idea to change it. Like Jon I did not go last year and won't this year. I definately will be in Indianapolis next year and will be able to drive to Boston in '08.

It would be great to be able to go every other year.

You got my vote. I don't get much time off work, so I end up missing all but the NW ones (89 & 01).
