Sorry to ask such a basic question of you all but I have never driven a 1927 three pedal model "T" before and my 90 year old neighbor wants me to take him for a ride in his restored one and he can't remember how either. Can I get a quick lesson from someone? My guess is the lever at the right is the emergency brake and sort of a clutch. all the way back is disengaged clutch and brake on. the left pedal is depressed for taking off in low range, let up for high range. To Go one pushes in the left pedal and releases the brake. once going fast enough, let left pedel up and you are in high range.

To stop the puch in far right pedal in and pull back on brake/clutch lever to avoid load on engine. Middle one is reverse and the floor stick is for a 2 speed differential. Forward is high or fast range and back is lower range. Shifted only with the clutch/enmergency brake pulled back and pedals at rest???. Or is there a number I can call to discuss incase I got this all wrong.

PS starting is a matter of 1/2 gas lever down, 1/2 spark advance lever down and choke pulled out until fire. Starter is button on floor?

  • I belive the lever on the left is pulled back for emergency or parking brake. Releaced or mid way is clutch and after getting moveing with left pedal pushed releace pedal and push the brake and clutch lever all the way forward for high. Thats the way I remember driveing a 25 model. The ign switch may have 2 positions on it marked BAT and MAG. Start on battery then switch to magneto. Dont know about the 2 speed rear end.

Just printed out a 57 page owners manual from the Ford guys at classic. This is the greatest web site for us old car buffs ever created, no matter what the name on the vehicle, They all get respect and attention. Thanks for you help.

Driving back then sounds hard. At least back then you didn't have to deal with traffic.
