Text of Proposed Nat'l Meet Rotation Change
Here's the proposed new wording of the relevant section in the HET Club's National Meet Manual, which defines the rotation scheme. We want to get this out to members in advance to let folks know what's being proposed, so they can weigh in on the issue if they want (there are no deletions from current wording, just added words to describe the new pattern and how we get there smoothly). New words in cap's:
"The National Meet location shall rotate through the four regions sequentially from west to east; for example, Western Region in 2001, Big Country Region in 2002, Central Region in 2003, and Eastern Region in 2004. THIS PATTERN SHALL CONTINUE THROUGH 2008. THE 2009 NATIONAL MEET SHALL BE IN THE DETROIT, MICHIGAN, AREA (CENTRAL REGION), HONORING THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF HUDSON MOTOR CAR COMPANY. THE 2010 MEET SHALL BE IN THE WESTERN REGION, 2011 IN BIG COUNTRY REGION, AND 2012 IN THE EASTERN REGION. FOLLOWING THIS TRANSITION PERIOD A NEW REGULAR ROTATION PATTERN SHALL BEGIN IN 2013: WEST, CENTRAL, BIG COUNTRY, EAST. Thereafter the cycle will begin again with the Western Region. This rotation sequence shall continue so that the National Meet is held in a different region each year. Exceptions in the rotation sequence must be approved by the Board of Directors. The Directors of each region shall be responsible for generating one or more proposals (bids) from their respective regions, adhering to the currently required lead time for such bids."

Sounds good to me.

Sounds good to me........ I don't normally attend because of the timing of the National meet. Meets need to be in an earlier or a later time frame. A lot of us can't stand the heat and humidity of a middle to late summer meet.

It helps to have them in places people want to go, so you will get a good turn out. I don't think this years will be heavily attended, and I have got that from people that live near there.0

Can't be in the hot touristy spots all of the time! Have you been to Kearney? That's a nice area in Nebraska. It's not Reno, there isn't casinos or Disneyland, so what? The drawback to Reno and the like is that the surroundings actually take the focus away from the event, IMO. And I did go to Reno, and Wichita, too. Pittsburgh was not possible to attend, and I didn't want to go to Madison...probably for the same reason why you don't want to go to Kearney. Face it, folks, the proposed rotation is probably the best solution to allow folks to go to at least a National every other year in different parts of the country. You'd see a large portion of the HET fall out of the club if the Nats were held in one area of the country every year. It has to be inconveinient for folks once in a while, right? Conversely, if you're going to wait for the Nats to be in your back yard, volunteer your Chapter to host them!!!0

Agreed it definately has to be somewhere different each year. Trendy places can be a headache, wasn't saying that, but I personally don't know much in Nebraska to see. Also I have freinds here that lived there. It's farm country and though Kearny may be nice there is a whole lot of nothin getting there if you want to drive. I would have done Reno had I had my car and it was reliable. Nebraska is too far for me, because I would want to bring my car. I am sure there are a lot of different angles to this. I am just mentioning things I have experienced in the past being in other car clubs and travelling a lot now with a car company.0

Trendy places can get expensive - this has to be something considered in having a National. Most of the time I don't go simply because I'm retired and short on cash. Anything much over $80 or $90 a night for 3 or 4 nights stretches my budget to the breaking point.
Yes, there are lower priced motels in a given area, but I'm also getting up in age and it's nice to have a room in, or next door to, the host hotel so I can get inside and perhaps stretch out for a while without having to drive (or walk) 3 or 4 blocks.
Just my soap box.
