Head Gasket Sealing
I was wondering what some of your preferred head gasket sealers are. I've been told to use a light coat of silver enamel sprayed onto the gasket and dried overnight. Just looking for other opinions or advice. I'm re-assembling a '49 262 CI in a Super Six.
Thanks,
Doug

When using a composite gasket no sealer is needed. If the gasket is copper or a steel shim it is common to use spray on copper coat or something like that as a sealer. I have heard of using paint as well but I choose to use copper coat. Flat gasket surfaces are always nice to have as well.0

I use to use hi temp aluminum paint - installed wet. Never had any problems.0

In addition to the aluminum paint, I soak the gasket in water for about 30 minutes before I paint it. The gasket will swell, allowing a little more crush when the head in torqued. I have used this method several times with no problems.0
