Grrrrr.....This may not be entirely car related - but goes to a big reason more of us can't afford more toys these days...
In 1 day CEOs earn a worker's yearly pay
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003082317_execpay24.html
I've been programming professionally for over 10 years. Right now the "market rate" for my skills in the Seattle Area, which don't forget is the Mircrosoft.Google.Yahoo.Amazon.BackYard is 40-50% lower than it was 4 years ago.
Then I read this article about CEO's pay being 262 x the avg!
Now I know the real reason my Hudson sits waiting for parts and what my extra salary went to fund, Thanks Bill (Gates) and Steve (Ballmer) and all the others making the money, and living a lifestyle I'll never know - entirely off others sweat!

Dan, in a few years, the only jobs available in America will be corporate execs and McDonald's workers. The middle class is a vanishing breed in America. For instance, right now I have a client, if successful, will move about 1500-2000 mortgage processing jobs to India.
Its the wave of globalization folks, I'm not judging good or bad, its just what I think is going to happen.
Of course, if they every REALLY simplify the tax code, I'll be flipping burgers!

Tell me about it!!! You have been outsourced to India dude. Can't call HP or anyone anymore with out reaching India. And that is just Tech Support. Programing went there years before. I had to leave the field as my salary kept going down. If it wasn't for trades like the K-gap folks and my chrome guy I would even have my truck to stage it is at now. Waiting for body work.
Death to those companies that oursource overseas tech jobs. American traitors.0 -
My daughter worked for AOL, until about 1 1/2 years ago. She got a better offer and changed jobs (luckily), just before AOL moved their accounting & billing to India... And - those scum buckets were trying to convince her to stay @ AOL, right up until they made the move 'public knowledge' - JERKS!
They should be required to change the name to IOL. Don't subscribe to AOL. - I never could figure out why anyone would use their services anyway
I worked for a very well known worldwide financial organization, and just before they sold-off the U.S. tax & business part of the company to another firm, they went through a 'test' phase where U.S. tax returns were processed in India!
This meant that their clients' personal & financial data was scanned, photocopied, etc., and transmitted to financial centers in India, where the returns were processed. All of this was done, WITHOUT the clients' knowledge that their personal information and tax returns had been 'shipped' overseas for processing. Essentially they were trying to cut down on the number of accountants and tax processors, minimizing their costs to prepare clients' tax returns. This was kept very, very quiet as they did not want it publicly known.0 -
After WWII the middle class drove the US economy it was the engine that lead to the amazing leap in technology and lifestyle. By putting so much pressure on the middle class you cut the heart out of your country. I see that on Thursday the House of Reps passed an estate tax cut. This cut will exempt 99.5% of the estates from tax. Meaning the rich get richer and the middle class carry the load of this $760 Billion cut. All the while these fat cats are off shoring their work force to make even more tax free money.
Add to that the Senate just rejected an increase to the minimum wage this week and you need to ask yourself who is being looked after here.
Anyone here believe in trickle down economics? I ain't seeing anything coming down....
End result we can't even afford the Hudsons we have let alone buy new ones.0 -

Still the best country in the world to live though even if some things need changing.0 -
Hmmm.
I'm a self employed farmer. Let's say I have a good year and make $100K. (it hasn't happened yet!) OK, US Gov't takes 28% plus 15.3% self employment tax. (the SET is a big surprise the first time it takes ALL of your annual profits away) Then my state takes 9% income tax. OK, now anything I buy here is taxed at 6% or more depending on local tax rates. Yep, I'm still paying property tax on the house and the farm and 10 cars/trucks. Not to mention all the little things like gas tax and phone taxes etc. OK, out of my 100K, I've got a few hundred left after my expenses.
Why even try?
We can blame the fat cats for taking as much as they can, or we can blame ourselves for voting for those who tax us to death.
Me? I'm no longer a contributing member of society. From now on I'm going to take, take, take.
Have a nice day

This subject is like rodding Vs restoring, religion and .... politics. My Dad was a very astute man and he told something about business that I will never forget. He said "How can you pay someone $70,000 a year to build a car and expect someone who makes $30,000 a year to buy it?" This trend is part of the reason why the US outsources to other countries. It's the exact same reason Hollywood shoots so many TV shows and Movies in Canada. It's cheaper. You can complain about the CEO's but you had better include both the Union leaders, their Mob bosses and our pathetic legal system in the same sentence. Like it or not, the world is getting smaller and more competitive.0

There. Now, do we all feel better, getting that off our chests? Open up another six pack and hand me another drink, please.0
