1954 one year only fender skirts

  • Rare indeed. Would those have been used on the 1854 Step Up Buck board model?

    To bend the thread a bit. Is there a source for the rubber molding on the fender skirts? Seems to be a narrow "Y" in cross section. K-Gap does not have? Walt-LA
  • PHAT FINGER Tying ... changed it ...;>}
  • Those 1854 skirts - went right along with the 1854 stagecoach curb feelers!!!

    Walt, have you checked the Steele Rubber Parts catalog? They've got a lot of generic stuff of this type.

    I thought they would be the same as earlier models. Isn't the 54 generally the same car only with fins welded to the top of the rear quarters.

    On 54's front and rear fenders as well as all lower panels are all together different. Rocker panels are welded in as in other cars of the era. Hood and deck lid are squared off, roof is reshapped to use a one piece windshield. Although mechanically they are the same as previous stepdowns, they seem to drive different ( better). Power steering and power brakes made it a very sweet car. At least that's my humble opinion.

    Were the original grille baffles on the '51 stepdowns painted in flat black or with a glossier chassis black? Mine were done in flat black at some time in the past following a fender bender. Flat paint probably shows less, but not be as protective.

    :D That was too funny! Don't want to scuff up those big spoked wheels.

  • I was the only bidder on these and got em for $99. There can't be too many of these around. I don't know what repros cost or even if available for a 54 but the cost has to be close to this.

    Does K-gap no longer have the skirt rubber available? they did have it in the past.

    I knew the front and top rears were different but from what I read in books, the design of the stepdown was not easily changed(updated) so I assume they changed the front clip (easy enough done) and welded fins/tails to the rear quarters to change therear look, I assumed the rest of the car was the same.
  • I received the 54 fender skirts in the mail today. They fit like a glove and straight as an arrow. Even the factory edge seals are excellent. They really look nice on these 54's. Too bad the car is such a project. I'll just store these and be happy I got em.

    Vic- I was focused on finding a nice visor.

    I think I may have seen the small trailer you had full of parts. Honestly, it was difficult to see what was in there. It was a jumble of "stuff" and not displayed well. Just my 2 cents. :) Also, I know Harry54 is looking for a good set.....
