stepdowj grille baffle paint
Were the original grille baffles on the '51 stepdowns painted in flat black or with a glossier chassis black? Mine were done in flat black at some time in the past following a fender bender. Flat paint probably shows less, but not be as protective.

Walt, the color Hudson used was a mid gloss black laquer. The same stuff that GE uses on the back of stoves and dryers [or used to} You can still buy medium gloss from a decent auto paint store.0

Tractor Supply has a great low gloss black, either in rattle cans or in quarts and gallons. Looks great and seems to last fairly well.0
